Vegan Cakes- Who'd have thought it?

Back to Basics is managed and run by the same people as The Gallery Cafe, a predominately Vegan Cafe. I have been asked to contribute my baking skills. Now I am well versed with baked goods as you know but without eggs, this could be tricky. Fortunately the Vegan Society website was on hand with a particularly amazing recipe for Victoria sponge which went down a treat.

Its more than I can say for the disgusting batch of vegan brownies which i just made that tasted like an oil slick on a plate...... yuck.......

Day Two: Back To Basics-which workshop will you choose?

Another day another two volunteers and a whole load of ideas. We all got making and there was some suggestion of baking, which of course pleased me. My efforts took me down the fashion route today as I wanted to try out an idea which I had for a new workshop called Re-Made.

Taking inspiration from this amazing 80's jacket which had been sitting unloved in Ayoka, St Margarets Charity Shop, I Re-Made it into a cute little blouse for resale in the shop under our new label Ayoka ReWorked.

Day One at Back to Basics

Day one at Back to Basics was very eventful. After rummaging through the stock room at Ayoka the charity shop owned and managed by St Margaret's Settlement ( the charity which manages Back to Basics), I found an old floral curtain pelmet to work with.

I made 2 headpieces as a test for my workshops. I would love feedback on which style works best and vote on your favourite.

Back To Basics Coming Soon

Last week on a whim I answered an add on a gumtree looking for volunteers at a community arts and crafts space in East London.

As soon as I met with Siobhan and Natalie from Back to Basics I knew this was the start of something very exciting indeed.

Simply out Back to Basics is a community arts hub in East London bringing together local artist and craft enthusiasts alike. I will be in the space Mon/Tues/Weds next week for the open studios week. Pop in and see me.
